From Customer Experience to Research and Development, a core tenet of Therabody’s company culture is that the next big idea or product innovation can come from anyone at any level. Since our founder’s journey to create the first-ever Theragun to relieve his own debilitating pain, real stories and real people have always been at the heart of who we are and why we are on a mission to help everybody take control of their wellness and recovery.

So, we’re taking you behind the scenes at Therabody to highlight the real people who are helping make that mission a reality everyday — the best and brightest from around the globe.

Meet Derek Cooper, Director of Ecommerce Project Management. For nearly three years, Derek has been a foundational member of the Therabody team. His hard work, commitment and professionalism raise the bar for his team and elevate the Therabody website to its highest potential. His dedication extends outside of the workplace, too. This year Derek will complete the AIDS/LifeCycle ride from San Francisco to LA to raise money for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. We are proud to have such a passionate member of the team to help make Therabody a great place to work!

Give us a quick breakdown of your role and what you do at Therabody.  

My job title is Director of Ecommerce Project Management. At the core of it, I help keep the train on the track for all projects, launches, and content that go live on Therabody.com (getting this blog post that you are reading live and in front of our users’ eyes is one example!). My role is to try to be the most organized person on the team, work very closely with our many cross functional teams to make sure they have what they need, and ensure projects are completed – start to finish – on time and with the high-quality level of standards we keep at Therabody!

What is your favorite part of your job and about working at Therabody?

I love the people that I work with. My team always has my back and I always have theirs – there is an amazing level of respect that we hold for each other. I’ve recently moved back to Los Angeles HQ from San Francisco, and I have to say that being able to go into the office and feel the energy and bounce ideas off each other has been an extremely refreshing feeling. One last thing I’ll say about the people is that the diversity of ideas is impressive at Therabody, the innovation does not stop!  

What is the best lesson you’ve been taught in your career so far?

I have been extremely fortunate in my career to apply my skills and experience in different aspects of marketing and business. One thing I’ve learned from even my time at Therabody is that openness and willingness to never stop learning is one of the most important mindsets that you can have. Tie that to being solutions and goal oriented and you can be set up for success. I started at Therabody when the company was still Theragun as an Events Marketing Manager and have managed to use that openness and willingness to learn to adapt and succeed first on the App team and then on the Ecommerce team. Therabody has always been a place that allows for that transformative growth if you can apply yourself openly!

Cats or dogs? Do you have any pets?

Dogs. No question about it! Yes! Her name is Ducky and she’s the most incredible Chiweenie mix.

Favorite Therabody product?

Therabody JetBoots – 100% necessary when you’re constantly doing hill climbs on your bike!

What is your happy place?

On my road bike, nothing makes me feel more free. I’m currently training and fundraising for AIDS/Lifecycle 2022 so I’m on my bike for 150 miles a week right now.

Ocean or mountains?

The ocean! I grew up in Panama City, Panama, which sits between the Atlantic and the Pacific.

What’s your go to lunch choice?

The Harvest Bowl from Sweetgreen 🥗
